There never seems to be enough spare moments in life to sit back and truly appreciate all of the blessings we have. We’re very thankful when a blessing is introduced into our life, but we lack follow-up. That car you got for Christmas last year, is parked in the rainy driveway. The first bath it’s seen in weeks. Our childrens’ toys, though at one time they brought so much joy to their tiny worlds, now lay tattered and broken on a shelf. And the house you worked your life away to earn? You could hardly recognize it behind the crispy lawn and peeling paint. The point is, how could we let something that brought us so much joy, rot away into nothing? Had we been expecting its collapse the whole time? Maybe its been replaced by a new object, that calls itself bigger and better. Maybe, we just should have taken better care of it, and we could have had more good times with it. So friends take the time to be thankful. Take the time to remember the joy things brought you when they were introduced into your life.
Humans are very adaptive, which is great, but we adjust VERY quickly. And oftentimes, a little too quickly, we chalk up our blessings to be just another piece of the puzzle. I’m trying to get myself into the habit of remembering all the things I’m thankful for, or ever was thankful for, each day. Examining the puzzle piece by piece and reliving those beautiful little moments that come along with them. So far it has helped me really direct my energy into the right places, and maintain the positive energy I’ve already created instead of wasting time and energy trying to recreate it. Then its all good, all around, all the time.
So from here on out, every time I can, instead of once a year, I will show my gratitude for EVERYTHING. I will never cease to be thankful for something that brought joy into my life. I will vigorously take care of and maintain all the blessings in my life, to extend the time I may have with them. Be thankful every day, be thankful for every thing. It doesn’t cost anything but there is so much to be gained. I’m in the habit now, of reminding myself of the peak points of happiness all the things around me have brought, and it seems there’s a little more light shining through the windows these days.
I hope you all have a fabulous thanksgiving, and take the time to realize how many blessing are around every one of us to be thankful for.
